Ikpeazu Speaks on Salaries, Development, Infrastructure

The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has revealed that the state government is up to date with salary payments of core civil servants in the State.

He said this on Monday while responding to ‘opinion moulders’ stating that it has always been an agenda by his administration to aggressively pursue human capital development.

Ikpeazu, while mentioning the development his administration has rolled out stated that his government will keep working out ways to pay parastatals in the state government.

Ikpeazu wrote, “When we came on board in 2015, we deliberately set out to aggressively pursue the human capital development of our people, whether in education, entrepreneurship or other fields. To this end, we formulated & rolled out our 5 Pillars of Development which are (i) Education (ii) Agriculture (iii) Commerce (iv) Industry, and (v) Oil & Gas.

To ensure the optimisation of these Pillars for the benefit of our people, we also recognised the importance of certain factors we call “Enablers”. They are (i) Security (ii) Education (iii) Health (iii) Infrastructure (iv) Ease-of-Doing Business & (v) Tax Reforms.

Based on these, we’ve supported capacity development through full sponsorship of training for a number of our young entrepreneurs particularly in the shoes & leather sector, both overseas & locally with the deliberate pursuit of capacity building and automation.

Following this, we have ignited automation of our shoe manufacturing industry through ENASCO and common facility centre. Now, more industrial garment machines are on the way from abroad courtesy of my Government, to support our garment making industry. Some of our officials including Chinenye Nwaogu, @hartng & Uwaoma Olenwengwa are already in Turkey & Bangladesh for this purpose.

We are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring our entrepreneurs continue to improve on their productivity, quality & even surpass global standards by assisting to provide them with the needed machinery and infrastructure. That’s why in our pursuit for FDI, we first tried to create a platform for light manufacturing at the Enyimba Economic City, which will rub off on our raw manufacturing skills as well as provide world-class Made-in-Abia wears, with its consequent job creation!

On infrastructure, we deliberately mainstreamed roads leading to markets and industrial clusters in the State. Such roads include Faulks Rd, Eziukwu, Samek etc.

We collaborated with relevant authorities to provide Independent Power Station to Ariaria with its attendant astronomical positive effects on output. We have also been supporting Geometric Power in this line State. Such roads include Faulks Rd, Eziukwu, Samek etc.

We have also been supporting Geometric Power in this line. I’m aware that there’s need to do more, but opinion moulders must put things in correct perspective so the people can key into these developments.

On salaries, we are up to date with salaries of core civil servants which make up more than 70% of our State workforce. We’ll keep working to sort out the issues with the others even as we continue to pay the new minimum wage.”
