Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has promised to assist the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) to parley with traditional rulers of the host communities to secure the land in dispute allowed for the construction of the College of Medicine and Health Technology.
He assured that the provision of sustained security and an enabling environment for uninterrupted academic activities will continue to be a priority.
Governor Hope Uzodimma gave the reassurance when he received in audience, the Pro-Chancellor and governing council of the Federal University of Technology Owerri at the government house, Owerri.
The governor observed that the cordial relationship between the state government and the school authority was largely dependent on the calibre of people making up the governing council, and pointed out that FUTO’s governing council comprised of those with high integrity.
He further assured that within 13 -14 months the ongoing Nekede-Ihiagwa road construction would be completed down to Obinze and promised that the breached perimeter fencing and bridge within the campus will be repaired to ensure security and enabling environment for academic activities.
Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor, Professor John Omini Offem who led the FUTO delegation in his address had commended Governor Uzodimma for his achievement in one year in office, particularly the ongoing construction of the Nekede-Ihiagwa- Obinze road.
Prof Offem noted that when completed, trespassers will cease to use the school premises as a diversion due to bad roads, a situation he said posed a security threat to the institution.
