Tinubu’s Interest in Abia Rooted in APC’s Electoral Fortunes, Says Orji Kalu Clarifies
Former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has clarified recent remarks regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s concern for Abia State, stating that the president’s interest is focused strictly on the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s performance in the region, not on the state’s governance.

In a statement made available on Saturday, Kalu emphasized that Tinubu remains deeply invested in the growth and political advancement of the APC across the Southeast, especially following the party’s underwhelming results in Abia during the last general election.
“Clarification on my statement about President Bola Tinubu’s concern on Abia state. The statement has nothing to do with the governance of the state but the party’s performance in the last general election,” Kalu said.

He further stressed the importance of grassroots engagement and unity among party members to ensure stronger support for Tinubu in the next election cycle.
“We will continue to work hard in our constituencies in consultation with our supporters to make sure the president wins with overwhelming votes from Abia state,” he added.
The former governor also reiterated his commitment to rallying APC stakeholders across Abia to reposition the party as a formidable force in the state.
Political analysts have noted that the APC has faced stiff competition in Abia, a traditionally stronghold for opposition parties. With Kalu’s reassurance, the party appears to be laying early groundwork for a stronger showing in upcoming elections.
