The Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has described this year’s mother’s Day Celebration as another period for mothers to reflect and evaluate their roles as mothers and be alive to their responsibility of raising God-fearing children.
Sir Oko Chukwu who stated this during the 2021 Mothering Sunday Celebration of the Presbyterian Church Of Nigeria, Living Spring Parish, # 1 Presbyterian Road, Ehimiri, Umuahia decried the high rate of criminal activities among youths such as kidnapping, Armed Banditry, Boko Haram insurgencies, Human trafficking, Armed Robbery, Prostitutions among others, which he attributed to the inability of some mothers to inculcate the right values in their children and wards.
The Deputy Governor described the woman’s Guide Sub Theme,” The Heaven Bound Women” as apt especially this period where the pressure of life is demanding and people tend to forget the real essence of their creation which is to worship and serve God whole heatedly and reminded them that everyone should always be conscious of the fact that all must give an account of their stewardship on Earth before God.
He described the Women’s Day celebration as a remarkable day set aside to recognize women of all ages and the strategic positions they occupy in the homes and Society and congratulated the women’s Guide of the Living Spring Parish of the Presbyterian Church for the successful celebration of their Mothering Sunday.
Also Speaking, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nkechi lkpeazu represented by the former Commissioner for Special duties, lady Elizabeth Chengdu who donated 30 pieces of wrappers to the women of the Parish for this year’s women’s Day celebration and advised them to encourage their children to know their Genotype before marriage to help break the chain of sickle cell disease as well as taking good care of themselves by having regular medical check-ups.
In his sermon, the wife of the minister in charge of the Parish, Elder Mrs Lucy Okorie said to be Heaven bound, one has to accept Jesus Christ and be transformed in spirit and flesh and enjoined Christians to always set their minds on things above as every earthy possession are all vanity.
In her remarks, the wife of a former Commissioner for Boundary Matters and Conflict Resolutions, Mrs Ezinne Imo Mascot Obike thanked God for the privilege granted them to celebrate another mother’s Day and prayed God to give them the Grace to excel in their motherly roles to their children, State and Society at large.
The Service which featured cutting of the Mothering Sunday cake and display by the women attracted the presence of the wife of the Deputy Governor, Lady Vivien Oko Chukwu, Chief Mascot Imo Obike, top Govt Officials, the Clergy and other distinguished personalities.
