A Nigerian Soldier identified as Lance Corporal Nwobodo Chinonso of 223 Battalion Zuru, Sokoto State has killed his Commander and three others on Sunday, March 5.
It was gathered that Lance Corporal Chinonso committed suicide after committing the act at Forward Operating Base (FOB), Rabah, in Sokoto State at about 1700hrs.
The suspect opened fire at the home of his base Commander Lt. Sam Oladapo ans killed the soldiers identified as FOB Command Sergeant Major (CSM), Sgt. Iliyasu Inusa, and a private soldier, Attahiru Mohammed before turning the gun to himself.
Meanwhile, the remains of the victims have been deposited at the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital while an investigation has commenced.
A senior officer in Sokoto Division who spoke to Daily Post suggested implied that the soldier may have been battling “operational and psychological stress”.
“It is something that is common in the military. But that’s not a justification for any of our soldiers to go haywire,” he said.
