In the spate of incessant kidnappings in the country, Shehu Sani, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central has blasted the Nigeria security agencies for their lack of professionalism and proactiveness.
Citing neighbouring countries like the Benin Republic, Niger, Lake Chad, and Cameroon, Sani stated that security agencies in these countries are serious in the execution and discharge of their duties.
“Why are there no kidnappings for ransom in Benin Republic, Niger, Chad and Cameroon? Because their security agencies are more serious and professional in the execution of their duties.”
Sani who spoke about the increased insecurity that had befallen the country said desperate family members would do anything to release their loved ones knowing the hopelessness of the security agencies.
“If ransom is not paid to Kidnappers, the lives of the hostages are at risk. If ransom is paid to kidnappers, it encourages other kidnappers to abduct more and makes the business of kidnapping more lucrative. Families of the victims of kidnappings will do anything to get their loved ones released in the event of the helplessness and hopelessness of the security agencies.”
Last week, terrorists attacked and abducted over 30 persons at Dogon-Fili near Katari, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Also, 10 persons were kidnapped in the Sagwari Estate Layout at Dutse in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on January 7, 2024, by terrorists dressed as military men.
The terrorists have so far, killed 3 victims while demanding N700m as ransom.
