The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has set March 19, 2024, as the trial date for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
This was made known by Justice Binta Nyako on Monday when the operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, brought the detained leader to court to continue his trial on treason and felony charges.
Mazi Kanu who briefly met with religious and traditional rulers at the court premises, applied for a bail application and preliminary objection through his counsel, Alloy Ejimakor.
While the counsel for the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo, was ready for the continuation of the trial as decided by the Supreme Court on December 15, 2024, Mr Ejimakor said they were not ready to continue the proceeding.
“So we are ready to proceed with the hearing of this matter, and it is in the defendant’s interest and everybody’s interest in this country to see to the end of the hearing,” Awomolo said.
He urged the court to decide on the bail application and the preliminary objection.
