The management of Leads British International School has shut down the school for three days following the video of a student Maryann Hassan bullying Namitra Bwala went viral.
There was palpable outrage on social media when the video showed a group of students led by Maryann slapping and beating Namitra who remained calm throughout the incident.
This was announced on Tuesday at an emergency Parents’ meeting held at the school premises with the Minister of Women’s Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye in attendance.
The school management through Abraham Ogunkambi, the Head of Lead British International School, issued a statement, detailing the steps being taken by the school.
“The school management is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness,” Ogunkambi asserted. He added that the school has already been in contact with the victim and her parents, offering support and counseling services to help them manage the emotional and psychological effects of the incident.”
Meanwhile, Daniel Bwala, an aide to President Bola Tinubu has denied the fact that the victim is his daughter but stated that he had reported the matter to law enforcement agencies as bullying is not acceptable in any society.
“My attention has been drawn to a viral video circulating on all social media platforms alleging that my daughter was bullied or assaulted. For the records, the young girl in the video is not my daughter, I do not know her, nor do I have any of my children studying in that school.
“Whilst the young girl in the video showed extreme decorum and restraint (and should be commended), if it were any of my children, the scenario would not go without a fight in exercise of self defense
“However, I have myself reported the incident to law enforcement because it could have been anybody’s daughter, since violence and bullying is not acceptable in our society.
“I was equally told by someone who thought she was my daughter and acted before chatting me, by contacting the so-called school and that the school claimed both girls are minors and therefore should be treated as such. If a school can say that, you can imagine what they are teaching the students.

Confirming the incident, SP Josephine Adeh, the public relations officer on Tuesday stated that operatives have been deployed to the school premises for investigation.
“In a proactive response to alarms raised by some members of the public regarding videos circulating on social media depicting the bullying of students at the above-mentioned school, the FCT Police Command is on top of the situation and has deployed seasoned officers to the school premises for investigations and to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order.”
