Indigenes of Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State have applauded the Abia Representative at the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Eruba Dimgba for attracting the construction of Obehie-Oke-ikpe Road, Ukwa West LGA.
Among them was Chief Dominic Oforji who described that the 9km Obehie-Oke-ikpe road, was in a deplorable condition and impassable, especially for the people of the community who were predominantly farmers.
Speaking further on Saturday at the Obehie Primary School field, Chief Oforji stated that with the help of Chief Eruba and NDDC led by the Managing Director NDDC Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD., the construction of the road was actualized.
“This is a major road that leads to Akwa Ibom State and the economic value cannot be over-emphasized. I am particularly excited that we are using this road now. Our sons at the NDDC particularly Chief Eruba Dimgba who attracted the road when he was in the House as a Director.”
Stating clearly that the Road is a federal road linking Abia and Akwa Ibom State, the Honourable member representing Ukwa West State Constituency, Honourable Godwin Adiele Anyamadu, disclosed that this is the first phase of the road from Obehie to Akwete. He revealed that the 2nd phase from Akwete-Azummiri will kick off very soon.
“I deeply thank Chief Eruba Dimgba for this project. I also thank the MD NDDC Chief Samuel Ogbuku PhD and extend our gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for allowing our son to mark the indelible mark and leave a lasting legacy.”
Throwing more light on what the Construction of the road meant to the people of Obehie, the woman leader Lolo Chinke Monica revealed that this road was prone to accidents but now, one travels to Port Harcourt with ease.
A traditional ruler of the area and Chairman of Ukwa East Council of Ezes, HRH Eze Chinyere Dike appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the road which has been impassable for over seven years stating that the people of the community are relieved from suffering and can now transport their farm produce. He pleaded that the road be extended and dualized.
“We thank President Bola Tinubu for appointing our illustrious son as the Commissioner representing Abia State at the governing board of NDDC. We call on Chief Samuel Ogbuku, the MD of NDDC to appeal for the expansion of this road and its dualization.”
In appreciation, Chief Eruba expressed delight in the actualization of a dream for all indigenes of the State particularly the people of Obehie. He thanked the people for their cooperation in bringing the project to light.
He especially thanked the State Government and the NDDC for their commitment to the development of the region stating that the road will undoubtedly enhance transportation efficiency and urged the communities to protect the asset and ensure its long-term sustainability.
