5 Suspected Human Traffickers Arrested, 17 Girls Rescued

Five suspected human traffickers have been arrested by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and seventeen young Nigerian girls rescued.

It was gathered that the girls who were trafficked to Ghana were reportedly lured to Ghana with false job offers but ended up in exploitative conditions and forced to take oaths of secrecy.

According to a statement by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the NiDCOM Chairman, this operation brings the total number of girls rescued from Ghana to 130 since July 2024.

The rescued young girls, aged 18 to 29, are from various states, including Anambra, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Imo, Edo, and Ebonyi.

Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the commission’s dedication to protecting Nigerians, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on combating human trafficking and safeguarding citizens’ rights both domestically and abroad.
