Kalu Vows to Advocate Legislative Measures for South-East Region

The Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has expressed his commitment to advocating for legislative measures aimed at addressing the humanitarian and systemic crises affecting the South-East region comprehensively.

He made this statement on Tuesday following a roundtable discussion with representatives of International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) to explore collaborative strategies for tackling the humanitarian, ecological, and systemic challenges facing the Southeast.

During the discussion, he highlighted that critical areas for intervention have been identified and emphasized the need for sustainable solutions to these urgent issues in partnership with his office and the Peace in South East Project.

“The Southeast is facing severe crises characterized by displacement, violence, and ecological challenges, including natural disasters. Recent reports indicate that over 260 individuals have been displaced from their homes due to this multifaceted crisis.”

The Deputy Speaker, who was instrumental in establishing the South East Development Commission, expressed his gratitude to the INGOs for their partnership and contributions as they work together to find sustainable solutions, restore stability, and bring hope to the people.
