Human Rights Activist Deji Adeyanju has accused Afrobeat singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, of being behind the arrest of colleague Darlington Okoye, a.k.a Speed Darlington, in Owerri, Imo State, by the Police.
Speed Darlington, who released a diss track on Burna Boy, was arrested while performing at his show weeks after he was released by the Police after he was arrested on an allegation of “defamation and cyberstalking” of Burna Boy but was released on bail on 8 October.
On his social media page, Deji wrote, “Burna Boy behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela, now oppressing Akpi.
BREAKING: Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”
In a video in October, Speed Darlington’s mother had gone on her knees begging Burna Boy to forgive her son.
Speed Darlington had made a “defamatory” video questioning how Burna Boy secured his Grammy award for his 2020 album Twice As Tall, executively produced by Diddy and Burna Boy’s mother, Bose Ogulu following the trials of Singer P.Diddy.
Darlington said, “It wasn’t long after Burna Boy posted a photo with Diddy that he won the Grammy. I’m just wondering, Burna Boy, I’m asking you a question. No vex. How much oil did Diddy drop on you before they gave you the trophy? Burna Boy, tell the truth.”
Meanwhile, It’s not clear the reason for his latest arrest.
