Governor Alex Otti pointed out that 15 per cent of the 2025 budget had been allocated to the health sector to address challenges in healthcare services. He emphasized the critical role of Medical Laboratory Scientists, especially in the face of global health crises.
Represented by Permanent Secretary Dr Ifeyinwa Blossom Uma Kalu, the Governor expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Occasion, Professor Dennis Edo Agbonlahor, and Abia State Chairman of AMLSN, Dr Uche Odionyenma, along with all attendees. He noted that the 60th anniversary of the Annual Scientific Conference and AGM of AMLSN Abia 2024, held at the Murphy Mansion near the War Museum in Umuahia, Abia State, is a platform for developing solutions to medical challenges both at the state and national levels.
The Governor highlighted that the conference reflects the resilience and excellence of the association. He pointed out that the event’s theme, “Current Innovations and Challenges in Medical Laboratory Services: Navigating Global, Regional, and Local Health Care Realities,” is especially pertinent given the collective experiences of global health issues and the complex challenges faced in the country.
“The association has made significant progress throughout its history. The Ministry is particularly pleased to have a health-friendly Governor. Abia is known for its hospitality, and we encourage visitors to explore the historical sites in our state,” he stated.
He praised the medical laboratory professionals for their resilience in healthcare, particularly in accurate diagnosis, disease management, and healthcare delivery in times of crisis.
A highlight of the event was the cutting of the anniversary cake, along with the Distinguished Service Award of Excellence presented to Governor Alex Otti by Chairman Professor Dennis Edo Agbonlahor.
