Presidency Condemns Unauthorized 2027 Campaign Billboards, Urges Compliance with Electoral Law
The Office of the President has strongly disapproved of political billboards surfacing across several Nigerian cities that promote a premature 2027 re-election campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The Office of the President has strongly disapproved of political billboards surfacing across several Nigerian cities that promote a premature 2027 re-election campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. These materials, which feature the President and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have been prominently displayed in areas such as Abuja and Kano.
In a statement released on Monday and signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Presidency clarified that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima has authorized any campaign-related activities for the next general elections.
According to Onanuga, “The Electoral Act explicitly prohibits early campaigning ahead of the official timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Any actions that disregard this law threaten the credibility of the electoral system and may create unfair political advantages.”

He emphasized that the administration remains committed to upholding democratic principles and the rule of law. “President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima have not endorsed any campaign messages or materials, regardless of the medium—be it billboards, digital platforms, newspapers, radio, or television.”
While the Presidency expressed appreciation for the continued loyalty and enthusiasm of supporters nationwide, it urged individuals and groups behind these early campaign materials to halt their activities without delay.
“Nation-building remains the administration’s top priority,” the statement continued. “From economic reform and human capital development to security, infrastructure, and social investment, the government is focused on delivering tangible progress to Nigerians.”
The Presidency assured the public that when INEC formally opens the 2027 election season, the President will communicate his intentions directly and transparently.
Until then, any unauthorized political promotions should be regarded as unofficial and contrary to the spirit of Nigeria’s electoral guidelines.
