Human rights activist Dele Farotimi has asserted that the results of the 2027 election have already been predetermined by President Bola Tinubu, who is known for never leaving anything to chance.
“Tinubu is not a man who leaves anything to chance. I can guarantee you, I warrant that the 2027 election results are already written,” Farotimi expressed in an exclusive interview.
Having been remanded for condemning the blatant abuse of the judiciary, Farotimi cautioned that unless the people are empowered, the result will merely be a change of one set of slave masters for another.
“When the political transfer season begins, it’s normal to see various permutations. Those who have been displaced from positions of power and those who genuinely seek change will be looking for alliances. When they are done, even if they gain power, if the people aren’t empowered, all that will occur is the shifting from one set of slave masters to another.”
Farotimi questioned why prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso failed to initiate change when they had the power. He highlighted that they are now working diligently to obtain power without a commitment to making a difference.
“Each and every one of these individuals who have endorsed others in the past— from Atiku to El-Rufai to Kwankwaso— had the opportunity to make a difference when they wielded power, yet what did they do?”
Furthermore, Farotimi noted that many people were warned when the Constitution was subverted and when the democratic system was undermined. Instead of calling out these issues, many chose to applaud the erosion of democratic principles and the disregard for the people’s rights.
“When they endorsed him and were warned about the subversion of the Constitution and the destruction of the democratic order, were they not applauding? If the person at the helm desires a third and fourth term, what do you think will stop him, considering the support of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun?”
