I thought i had an idea of the level of decay in the Nigerian Police until i found out the hard way yesterday but thank God for Distinguished people with heart like @segalink and the DSP @ElkanaBala Spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Lagos State Command.
Being an individual who is conscious of governments directive in all ramifications most importantly in relation to the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, i left my home yesterday around after 10am in the morning of yesterday to buy gas with my small gas cylinder. On my way, i pass through a check point manned by men of the Nigerian Police at AYE Bus Stop along Mushin Isolo road.
I was not stopped, so while returning i was asked to stop which i did. The Officer then ask me to open by trunk of my car, i asked my junior brother to go and open it. Then, he demanded for my identity card and this was promptly given to him, secondly he asked for a certificate which grant me access to go out when it’s 10am, i told him i don’t understand what he meant by “certificate” with a harsh tone.
Then he asked me to come down from the car which i did. He then asked one of his Sergeant to take the car to their station, after hitting me on the face with his back hand and almost tearing my clothe but because of the unique functions of the car, u can’t start the engine until you engage the brake, the officer couldn’t start the car. This created a scene and subsequent furore of arguments between me and the officers involved, since i choose to stand on the fact that i haven’t done anything illegal by going out to buy gas at this point in time which is around now 11:43am.
Then, i entered the car myself and took it to station. It got to me that i will need help before this guys will seize my car based on trump up charges and this is were the above mentioned names comes in handy. @segalink i want to say a very big thank you for responding yesterday. I’m grateful Long story short my car was later released to me around 3:00pm yesterday.
