Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has expressed deep sympathy for the victims of the recent fire incident at No. 73 Lagos Street, Off Ngwa Road, Aba, which destroyed property worth millions of naira.
During an unscheduled visit to the scene, the Governor described the incident as unfortunate and assured affected residents of government support, including assistance in securing alternative accommodation. He also expressed gratitude that no lives were lost.
Governor Otti directed the Senior Special Assistant on Homeland Security to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. He further emphasized the importance of fire safety measures, announcing the enforcement of compulsory fire extinguishers in all households.

Expressing concern over reports that Aba Fire Service personnel were unreachable during the emergency, the Governor mandated an inquiry to determine why their phone lines were switched off despite previous investments in firefighting equipment and response mechanisms.
Victims of the fire, including the landlord and tenants, recounted their ordeal, stating they lost everything and appealed for government assistance. Governor Otti reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring such incidents are mitigated through improved safety protocols and emergency response efficiency.
