Abia State Government has directed the Muslim community in the State to observe the Eid Fitr at home as there will no gathering at the prayer ground to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
According to the Honorable Commssioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu who stated this through a statement made available to Newsleverage, he stated that the decision was made after due consultation with the Muslim community.
He also urged them to take necessary steps to protect themselves from the global pandemic in the country.

‘Following consultations with the Muslim community in Abia State, an agreement has been reached between the state inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr Chris Ezem and the Muslim community led by the Chief Imam of Abia State, Sheik Ali Ukiwe, and we wish to inform all Muslims in the state that Eid Fitr for this year 2020 will be celebrated at home as there shall be no gathering at the Eid prayer ground.
We wish to congratulate the Muslim ummah in Abia State for a successful Ramadan season and also urge them to avoid the associated visit to relatives and neighbors while taking necessary measures to protect themselves and families in view of the global pandemic.
