The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development, Honourable Yemi Adaramodu has supported the proposed establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund as a means of tackling the myriad of challenges facing the noble NYSC Scheme.
He made this known when he led other members of the Committee on a visit to the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja.
Adaramodu said when established, the NYSC Trust Fund shall handle issues of infrastructural decay and funding presently affecting the smooth operations of the Scheme.
The Committee Chairman also said the proposed Trust Fund shall provide ‘seed money’ for graduate youth Entrepreneurs after the service year considering the fact that many of them are committed to the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreurship Development(SAED) programme of the Scheme.
This he said will encourage the youths to be self-reliant instead of seeking for the elusive white colar jobs after the service year.
Honourable Adaramodu commended the NYSC management for adhering strictly to the COVID-19 safety protocols as stipulated by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). He asserted that NYSC is the only organisation in Nigeria that is very thorough in COVID-19 screening/testing before and during its programmes, especially the Orientation course.
He stated further that contrary to the rumours being peddled around by unscruplus elements; parents have no reasons to entertain fear concerning the safety of their children at the NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide.
The Ekiti-born lawmaker commended the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Alhaji Suleman Abdul and his officers for running a very smooth Orientation exercise. He urged them to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the youths entrusted to them are made better citizens that will lead Nigeria to the promised land.
Earlier, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Alhaji Suleman Abdul thanked the Members of the committee for coming to the camp to see things for themselves and urged the House Committee on Youth to intervene in other critical areas where the scheme needs help, especially in the FCT where the EndSARS protest of last year led to the looting of the NYSC Camp, Kubwa.
He assured the committee Members that the Corps Members are patriotic and are extremely committed to the unity and integration of Nigeria which the NYSC stands for.
