INEC Denies Recognising Abure as Labour Party National Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted recent media reports claiming it has recognised new national officers of the Labour Party (LP) and reinstated a National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement released on Thursday by Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, the Commission described the reports as “false and misleading,” clarifying that no official decision has been taken on the internal leadership disputes within the LP or PDP.

Oyekanmi explained that the names of LP national officers currently on the INEC website were uploaded following a prior court order, unrelated to the most recent Supreme Court judgement.

He further clarified that the PDP secretary listing had not been altered neither removed nor restored.

“As a law-abiding institution, the Commission is carefully studying the judgement of the Supreme Court on the Labour Party and will communicate its decision to the public in due course,” the statement read.

The clarification comes amid growing political tension and speculation regarding party leadership, especially ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
