Passengers have lamented over the strike embarked on by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) on Monday morning over salary increment of staff.
A tweet by film Producer and Director, Editi Effiong revealed that all fights have been grounded over the strike.
“NAHCO on strike. All flights were grounded. It’s Nigeria. Manage it like that.”
The Director, of Abia State Marketing and Quality Management Agency, Sam Hart wrote,
“Airport. Emergency NAHCO strike. All flights moved.
How’s your week starting?”
Currently, passengers are frustrated as they are locked outside the airports with no communication from the management as NAHCO handles the check-in, boarding, and ramp services for several international airlines including Air France/KLM, Qatar, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Turkish Air.
An aviation analyst, Daniel Young who spoke to Business Day said the situation will result in colossal financial losses for passengers.
“These individuals who perpetrate these actions are oblivious to the long-term effects of some of those insensitive decisions they take.
“This behavior by NACHO staff portrays the company as one whose self-district code is activated. Even more so, it affects the overall perception of the country and the aviation industry. Timely intervention by concerned leadership is required before the whole industry implodes,” Young said.
