The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled June 27, 2025, for judgment on two critical issues in the legal battle between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the leadership of the Senate over her recent suspension.
Presiding Judge Binta Nyako made the announcement after legal representatives for both parties adopted their written arguments. The suit, filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan who represents Kogi Central challenges the legality of her suspension by the Senate.
Key defendants in the case include the Senate itself, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics.

Justice Nyako stated that she would first rule on the contempt allegations raised by both parties before addressing the preliminary objection filed by the Senate President, which questions the court’s jurisdiction to hear the matter.
“If the preliminary objection succeeds, that ends the case,” she said. “If not, I will then proceed to address the substantive issues raised in the originating summons.”
The outcome of the June 27 ruling could determine whether Akpoti-Uduaghan’s challenge moves forward or is dismissed entirely on procedural grounds.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan who was in Court to observe the proceedings was suspended for six months for misconduct.
