The Anambra State Police Command has announced the successful rearrest of Ikemefuna Ossai, a prime suspect in the abduction and brutal killing of the late Hon. Justice Azuka, who represented Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest followed an intensive intelligence-led operation that tracked the fugitive across several Nigerian states and into a neighbouring West African country. Ossai was finally apprehended on May 7, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State.
Upon confrontation with law enforcement operatives, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly overpowered and sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the operation.

The Police Command has since briefed the late lawmaker’s family and the leadership of the State House of Assembly. Commissioner of Police expressed regret over the procedural lapses that allowed the suspect’s initial escape and assured that the incident has prompted internal reviews.
Authorities say actionable intelligence extracted from Ossai is aiding ongoing operations aimed at capturing remaining fugitives and dismantling the criminal syndicate responsible for the crime.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to justice and security across Anambra State, pledging to leave no stone unturned in holding all perpetrators accountable.
