Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, on Monday, received a high-level delegation from the National Council on Climate Change Secretariat (NCCCS) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration on climate action in Nigeria.
Led by the Director-General/CEO of the NCCCS, Mrs. Nkiruka Maduekwe, the delegation engaged with Kalu in a strategic meeting focused on addressing the intertwined challenges of climate change and the ongoing economic and humanitarian crisis in the country.
Kalu emphasized the critical role of legislative support in advancing climate solutions, highlighting the House’s commitment to enacting robust frameworks to ensure the effective implementation of climate policies, transparent use of funds, and resilience in vulnerable communities.


“We explored pathways for deeper collaboration between the House and development partners to tackle climate change issues, increase climate awareness, promote green jobs, and ensure sustainable financing for vulnerable communities,” Kalu said.
The Deputy Speaker reiterated that mechanisms are being put in place by the House to support climate policy, with an eye on inclusive development and long-term sustainability. He expressed optimism about future partnerships aimed at driving impactful climate interventions across Nigeria.
The visit marks a significant step toward integrating legislative support with international climate financing and technical expertise to combat the environmental challenges facing the nation.
