The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has adjourned the case between Mr. Peter Obi and Labour Party against the Independent National Electoral Commission, President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Vice President-Elect Kashim Shettima to Friday, the 19th of May 2023.
This was agreed after the court established that INEC refused to grant the Labour Party access to the evidence as ordered by the court.
The lead counsel to Mr. Tinubu, Wole Olanipekun SAN, and the INEC insisted that the LP representatives walked out of a meeting with them on Tuesday and also urged the Justices to give them a specific date to present the documents but this was declined.
They, therefore, asked the LP team to pay them N1.5 million to get the documents.
But LP Counsel Dr. Livy Uzoukwu SAN objected, revealing that members of the counsel Ikechukwu Ezechkwu SAN and Prof Paul Ananaba SAN were at the meeting.
Dr Uzoukwu also disclosed that the team wrote to the INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmoud, five times but they were only presented with 30% of the documents.
“Wole and the other parties served us documents on Monday and some yesterday and even today whilst in court. This is all tactics.
Officially, we are ready to pay any amount INEC wants from us if they will give us all the documents we need today! I will meet with their counsel and report to the court.” Dr. Livy said.
