Despite all efforts to stop the impeachment notice, the Rivers State House of Assembly Members signed the impeachment notice on Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday.
The session was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaehule attended by a majority of the members also removed the Leader of the House, Hon Edison Ehie, and those loyal to the governor.
Policemen in Rivers State were seen in a video throwing water at the Governor earlier today as he arrived at the Assembly Complex after an explosion rocked the Assembly on Sunday night.
Lawmakers were in the House at 7 a.m. and commenced a plenary session where they all signed the impeachment notice on the governor.
Responding to the situation, Governor Fubara stated that he had done nothing to warrant impeachment and accused the security agencies of compromise.
“The security agencies were shooting at me just to please somebody. It doesn’t matter, somebody will die one day. I’m not planning anything against anybody and I don’t know where all these things are coming from. For the good people of Rivers State, remain prayerful as God will see us through.”
Meanwhile, the entire Moscow Road leading to the Rivers State House of Assembly has been barricaded by armed policemen.
