Nkwoachara Wins ₦1 Million Star Prize as Maiden Edition of Don Lulu Foundation-Sponsored Ohuhu Unity League Concludes

The Nkwoachara bloc emerged victorious at the maiden edition of the Don Lulu Foundation-Sponsored Ohuhu Unity League, clinching the star prize of ₦1,000,000.

The thrilling final match, held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the Umuawa-Alaocha Central School Field, saw Nkwoachara defeating Afugiri 2-1 in a closely contested game that kept the audience entertained.

During the presentation of cheques and medals to the winners and runners-up, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (Don Lulu), Chairman of the Don Lulu Foundation, commended the teams and officials for their competitive spirit and efforts in making the competition a success.

In his remarks, Mayor Igbokwe emphasized the importance of talent discovery and development among youths.

“Each and every one of us has a talent within us. It is our responsibility to discover these talents, hone them, and put them to productive use that can improve our economic fortunes and those of our families,” he said.

As the United Nations Mayor of Peace, he reiterated his commitment to supporting programs and events that empower youths to explore their potentials.

The Mayor of Umuahia North, Chief Smart Ihuoma, praised the Don Lulu Foundation for organizing the competition, which kept youths actively engaged throughout the festive period. He described Mayor Igbokwe as an illustrious son of Ohuhu, always prioritizing the welfare of his people. Chief Ihuoma also advised participating youths to maintain discipline to succeed in their football careers.

Other dignitaries, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Magdalene Egondu Ugoanusi, and former Director of Abia Sports Council, Mr. Ejikeme Ikwunze (Mr. Football), applauded the initiative for providing a platform for youths to showcase their talents.

Earlier, the third-place match saw Isingwu defeating Okaiuga-Alaike 3-0 to claim the second runner-up position.

The Ohuhu Youth President, Chief Uchenna Gavin Iheanacho, expressed gratitude to Mayor Igbokwe for his consistent support of youth projects in Ohuhu and assured him of the continued support of the community’s youths.

The competition has not only strengthened unity among the Ohuhu communities but also inspired hope for youth development and empowerment through sports.
