The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has dismissed reports of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), emphasizing that operations at the refinery are continuing without disruption.
According to Olufemi Soneye, the NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the refinery’s operations were deliberately scaled down on January 25 to allow for crucial maintenance work on select equipment and field instruments.
This maintenance is aimed at ensuring the continued production of high-quality finished and intermediate products.

Despite the reduced capacity, the refinery has been consistently loading an average of eight trucks of diesel and kerosene daily. Soneye reassured that the maintenance is progressing as scheduled and that the affected area will resume full operations in the coming days.
The NNPC expressed gratitude for the patience and cooperation of stakeholders, reiterating its commitment to maintaining an uninterrupted supply of products.
