Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has announced plans to attract three million visitors annually, aiming to establish the state as a premier destination for tourism and investment.
“Sports, for us, is serious business. We are connecting the dots as we strive to bring three million visitors each year, positioning Enugu as a hub for tourism and investment. We are nurturing dreams, setting goals, and creating opportunities that will help our economy thrive,” he stated.
The Governor spoke on Saturday after successfully completing the 10km road race in 45 minutes during the 1st Enugu City International Marathon. He reiterated his commitment to making the Enugu City International Marathon a global event, promising that next year’s marathon would be even bigger and would attract elite athletes from around the world.








“In the elite 42km full marathon, East African athletes dominated, winning the top prizes of $15,000 for first place, $10,000 for second place, and $5,000 for third. In the Nigerian elite category, the best male and female runners each received N1 million, while the second and third places earned N500,000 and N250,000 respectively.”
He commended Commissioner for Youth and Sports Barr Lloyd Ekweremadu and his team, the consultants led by Yetunde Olopade, as well as our security agencies, the media, and everyone who contributed to the event’s success.
Governor Mbah also expressed gratitude to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu; former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu; Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Ezenta Ezeani; and other distinguished officials who attended the event.
“The Enugu City International Marathon is here to stay. Tomorrow is here!” he concluded.
