Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have successfully rescued a male victim abducted in the Enugu GRA area, killing one suspected kidnapper during a shootout in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025.

According to a press release issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe on Sunday, the operation was carried out by personnel attached to the CP’s Monitoring Unit and the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad. The officers also recovered a locally made double-barrelled pistol loaded with two live cartridges and a green Nissan Almeria believed to have been used by the gang.
The victim was kidnapped at about 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, while driving his Mercedes Jeep in the GRA area. The suspects, who were reportedly shooting sporadically, took him to an undisclosed location where they later forced a transfer of ₦2,250,000 from his account, after initially demanding a ransom of ₦20 million.

Acting swiftly on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, mobilised tactical and intelligence units to locate and rescue the victim. The team eventually traced the kidnappers to a hideout in a valley within the Ngwo area, where a gun battle ensued. One of the kidnappers was neutralised while the others escaped.
CP Giwa commended the operatives for their rapid response and has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. He also directed the recovery of the victim’s Mercedes Jeep and reiterated the Command’s commitment to fighting crime in the state.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement efforts in Enugu State.
