Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah said politics is not a do-or-die affair but a platform to advance the collective good and deliver the mandate entrusted to leaders.
He said this on Wednesday when he received his rival in the 2023 Governorship election in the State Honourable Chijioke Edeoga who vied for the number-one spot in the State under the Labour Party but defected to the Peoples Democratic Party PDP on Monday.
“Today in my office, I received Hon. Chijioke Edeoga as he returned to our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I commended him for demonstrating that politics is not a do-or-die affair but a platform to advance the collective good. His return reflects the spirit of reconciliation and our shared commitment to making the people of Enugu the centrepiece of governance.”

Mbah stated that the return of Chief Chijioke is a testament to the leadership and unity which has enveloped the administration and State since his inception as the Governor. He stated that his administration had prioritized the people and assured Mr Edeoga that he would be treated as a full member of the party.
“Hon. Edeoga’s alignment with the choice of the people is a profound lesson in leadership and unity. We are shifting the narrative from politics of division to politics of empathy and people-centred development. This is not about winners and losers but about delivering on the mandate entrusted to us.
“Our government prioritises development over division, collaboration over conflict, and service over self-interest. Therefore, Hon Edeoga will be embraced with open arms and treated as a full member of the PDP, which he has always been. On behalf of the PDP, I welcome him back home with open arms.”
Edeoga had contested alongside Mbah in the 2023 general election. While Mbah was declared winner of the March 18 election, Edeoga challenged his victory at the Enugu State Petition Tribunal over the falsification of his National Youth Service Corps certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC. The court stated that the certificate was not a mandatory criterion for the election. A judgement which was upheld by the Apex court.
