A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night in Calabar, as Police Inspector Stephen Enang collapsed and passed away shortly after watching Arsenal’s impressive 3-0 victory against Real Madrid.
Enang, originally from Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was serving at the Akim Police Division located along IBB Way. A well-known figure in his community, Enang was admired for his calm demeanor and unwavering support for Arsenal Football Club.
According to close friends, the Inspector had been in an excellent mood throughout the match, celebrating each goal with enthusiasm at a local viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street.
“He was full of joy during the game,” one friend shared. “When Arsenal scored, he cheered loudly, and his excitement was contagious. He had such a passion for the game.”

However, as the match ended and the crowd began to disperse, friends noticed that Enang had remained seated, unresponsive. Concerned, they rushed him to the Police Hospital in Akim, but despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
His friends described him as a quiet and devoted football fan, and his sudden passing has left them in shock.
Attempts to contact the Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, for an official statement have not been successful at the time of reporting.
