The Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria have stated that the Presidency has agreed to pay them a compensation sum of N4.75 billion to call off its food blockade from North to South.
The AUFCDN initiated a strike on the 25th of February, 2021, to address the killing of its members in the South and especially during the attack on Sasha market in Oyo State.
The union asked that its members be compensated and asked for N4.75 billion for its members.
In trying to address the matter, the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello and the former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani Kayode met with the union and reached a truce to call off its strike as they meet President Muhammadu Buhari on their stead.
The President of AUFCDN, Muhammed Tahir confirmed the report to the Nation saying;
“All stakeholders and members of AUFCDN in our nationwide strike are glad we achieved what we wanted to achieve. Since Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello begged us on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, we agreed to call off the nationwide strike today.
“They agreed to pay the compensation and call off multiple taxations on the federal highways and allow us to engage in our business activities peacefully nationwide while ensuring protection for our members,” Mr Tahir said.
Other demands presented by Mr Bello before the government through the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, includes the protection of the union’s members and the ability to withdraw its services from states in case of an attack.
Meanwhile, there has been no record of any compensation for Southerners whose farmlands have been destroyed by herdsmen and families who lost their loved ones at the hands of armed herdsmen.
