There was widespread jubilation in Kano and parts of Kaduna State following the successful rescue of a 75-year-old kidnap victim, Abdulrahman Yunusa, and the arrest of a suspected kidnapper by the Kano State Police Command.
According to a press release issued by the command on Monday, the breakthrough came on May 9 when tactical police teams raided a suspected kidnap syndicate’s hideout in Bagau Town, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.
Acting on “foolproof intelligence,” the team, led by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, apprehended 23-year-old Musa Tukur from Kudan LGA of Kaduna State, who was found guarding the victim.
Yunusa, who hails from Maigana in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was kidnapped from his residence on May 3 around 12:30 pm. He was found in captivity with his eyes covered and parts of his body tied with ropes. Police say the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N20 million.
The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment and later discharged. He has since been reunited with his family.
In a show of gratitude, residents from Soba LGA visited the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano to celebrate the victim’s rescue and commend the police for their swift action.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, praised the professionalism of the officers involved and encouraged continued public cooperation in the fight against crime. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged citizens to report suspicious activity through dedicated police hotlines.
The police also confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
