A 23-year-old Ali was arraigned on Thursday for allegedly stealing 1,000 cartons of cigarette valued N2million.
Ali was brought before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court on three counts of stealing, threat to life and conspiracy.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The police prosecutor, Insp Jimah Iseghede, had told the court that the defendant had committed the offenses sometime in 2018 at Olodi-Apapa.
Ali had stolen 1,000 cartons of cigarette valued N2 million, belonging to Mr. Emenike Okoronkwo, and had also threatened the life of the complainant, he alleged.
The offenses, he noted, contravened Sections 168, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted bail to Ali in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum, who must show proof of evidence of tax payment to the state government.
She fixed the case for November 20 for mention.
