Only Revolution Will Save Nigeria – Dele Farotimi

Renowned lawyer and human rights activist Dele Farotimi stated that the only thing that can save Nigeria from impending disaster is a revolution, not an election. He warned that if the current system continues, Nigeria will implode.

“If you are waiting for an election to save Nigeria, you have already lost. Let me make it clear: the only thing that can save us is a revolution. If we remain on this path, Nigeria will erupt into a civil war; it is already at war—it’s just that the lines are not clearly defined. If we keep going in this direction, Nigeria will collapse.”

Farotimi emphasized that it would be impossible to remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office, as he has effectively “bought or intimidated” sitting governors and their political godfathers to support his second term, despite Nigeria suffering under his policies and governance.

“While other candidates were busy buying delegates, Tinubu was focused on purchasing the godfathers. Don’t think for a moment that Tinubu is simply buying sitting governors; he’s buying the people who put them in power. For those he can’t buy, he intimidates into alignment. What you are witnessing is the alignment of politicians whether forced or voluntary, whether based on genuine political strategy or not.”

“A Tinubu who did not lose an election, running against almost an incumbent, is now in power. There is a difference between being in office and being in power. The Atikus of this world, thinking they can contest against him, are living in an illusion.”

He urged the people to unite, as this would prevent Tinubu from securing a second term in office. He reminded them that they are the true institution, as the judiciary and the legislature will endorse any action taken by the presidency.

“The people need to align. Without the alignment of the populace, what will happen is that the election results will be predetermined. The judiciary will certainly endorse it. Godswill Akpabio is the Senate President today because the Constitution has been disregarded and the judiciary is unfit for purpose. That is the only reason he occupies that position just like your President.”

He called on the people to take action, asserting that they are the only opposition that the politicians have. They must work to prevent the country’s decline. He urged them to set aside ethnic divisions, as this is the only tool used by politicians to divide the populace and hinder any collective effort to remove them from power.
