Troops of the Nigerian Army and the Department of the State Service, DSS, have arrested one member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB/Eastern Security Network (ESN) at Asaba, Delta State, when it raided its enclave located in the middle of a forested High Ground on Saturday morning.
This was made known by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu says the troops of 63 Bde Garrison under the auspices of 6 Division in an ongoing operation overpowered the IPOB fighters in the exchange of fire that followed the encounter, compelling them to abandon their hideout in disarray.
“The troops captured one of the fleeing fighters and recovered five AK 47 Rifles, three Pump Action SSemi-Automatic Rifles, one G3 Rifle, and one single barrel gun. Other items recovered, include Live Cartridges, Electric Saw, Machetes, an Axe, and an IPOB flag,” the statement says.
It also revealed that the troops destroyed the enclave and are exploiting the forest in pursuit of the fleeing fighters.
So far, the Nigerian Army has raided many hideouts of the proscribed group which has terrorized the region, and captured some of the criminals enforcing sit-at-home orders in the area.
