The Department of State Service, DSS, has rearrested the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele despite N20 million bail placed on him by the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State on Tuesday.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo also placed the same amount on the surety and adjourned the case till the 14th of November 2023.
Mr. Emefiele who has been in the custody of the DSS for one month was the bone of contention for the Nigerian Correctional Service and the DSS who had a tussle outside the courtroom over which agency should take custody of the embattled CBN former governor.
Operatives of the DSS manhandled the commander of the NCS and tore his uniform when he insisted on the takeover.
However, the NCS left the courtroom without Mr. Emefiele but shortly after, the DSS guided Mr Emefiele to a waiting car and took him away.
Recall that the DSS is charging Mr. Emefiele with a two-count charge bordering on illegal possession of ammunition, a charge for which he pleaded not guilty.
