The Nigerian Army has increased the feeding allowance of soldiers from N1000 to N1200 following their cries of economic hardship after the removal of fuel subsidies by the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
A memo was shared on social media on Wednesday and signed by Emmanuel Emekah, a Major-General, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja revealed.
“Sequel to the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government of Nigeria, with its attendant rise in the prices of goods and services across the country, the COAS has graciously approved upward review of ration cash allowance of troops from N1,000 to N1,200 with effect from August 2023,” Mr. Emekah said.
It was gathered that the soldiers who are paid N70,000 per month are grumbling about the poor remuneration in the military service which has led to many operatives tendering their resignation as seen by Newsleverage in a letter today.
Meanwhile, protesters stormed the National Assembly on Wednesday following the biting hunger and pulled down the gate of the complex to gain entrance as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) start their protest.
President of NLC Comrade Joe Ajaero had stated that the unions will not back down from Nationwide protest.
