EFCC Repatriates $132,362.43 and N78,566,324.81 to International Fraud Victims

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken significant action against economic and financial crimes by returning a total of $132,362.43 and N78,566,324.81 to American, Spanish, and Swiss victims of local fraudsters.

The handover ceremony, held at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, was led by the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. He emphasized that this action demonstrates the Nigerian government’s commitment to addressing economic and financial crimes and its dedication to good governance, economic stimulation, and international cooperation.

The EFCC highlighted its efforts to prevent financial crimes, recover assets, and restitute victims. In addition to the monetary restitution, the Commission also handed over vehicles and real estate to citizens of Spain, the United States, and Switzerland.

Breakdown of Restitution:

-Spain: $1,300 and N30 million were transferred to the Embassy of Spain for onward transmission to victim Maria Del Rosario San Jose.
-Switzerland; $100,011.43 was received by Florent Geel, Senior Political Officer, on behalf of victim Chantal Helene Lavancy.
-United States: Various amounts were received by Charles Smith, Legal Attaché, including $7,344, N7,963,483.35, and Bitcoin cryptocurrency valued at $4,470.00, on behalf of victims Maria Jesus Brockell, Michael Smith, Cheryle Williams, and Marva Marrow.

The restitution was welcomed by representatives of the affected countries, who praised the EFCC’s efforts in combating financial crimes and restoring investor confidence in Nigeria.
