Despite Wike’s Dare, PDP Fixes New Date for South-South, South-West, and North Central Zonal Congresses

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that the previously postponed Zonal Congress for the South South Zone will now take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

This decision comes after the South-South Zonal Congress that occurred in Calabar, Cross River State, on February 22, where the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his supporters were present. Although the South-South PDP Governors claimed that no Congress was held in the zone, the former Governor of Rivers State challenged the NWC by stating that there would be no other Congress in the region.

But in a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, the NWC also announced the rescheduling of the South West and North Central Zonal Congresses from the initially planned date of Saturday, March 22, 2025, to the new date of Saturday, April 12, 2025.

The Zonal Congresses will be held simultaneously in three locations: Port Harcourt, Rivers State (South South Zone); Ibadan, Oyo State (South West Zone); and Jos, Plateau State (North Central Zone). These congresses aim to elect the Executive Officers and National Ex-Officio Members for each respective Zonal Chapter according to the Constitution and Guidelines of our esteemed Party.

The NWC urges all aspirants, leaders, critical stakeholders, and enthusiastic members of our Party in the respective Zones, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security Agencies, and the Media, to take note of the scheduled date for the Zonal Congresses on Saturday, April 12, 2025, and to act accordingly.
