The trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, continued today with the prosecution presenting a series of broadcasts dating as far back as 2015 as their primary evidence-in-chief.
Legal counsel to Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the court has adjourned the matter until tomorrow for continuation of hearing and the commencement of cross-examination.
“MAZI NNAMDI KANU’s case has been adjourned to tomorrow for continuation of hearing,” Ejimakor wrote. “Today, the prosecution’s evidence-in-chief comprised primarily of MNK’s broadcasts dating back to 2015. Their relevance will be tested when we begin our cross examination, hopefully by tomorrow.”

The proceedings mark a pivotal moment in the high-profile case, which has drawn national and international attention amid ongoing debates over freedom of expression and the legal treatment of separatist figures in Nigeria.
Kanu has remained in detention since his controversial arrest and extradition in 2021, facing multiple charges including terrorism and incitement. His legal team maintains that the charges are politically motivated.
The trial continues at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
