The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has said that his administration is desirous of giving Abia Civil servants a befitting Housing Estate.
Ikpeazu made his feelings known at the Government House, Umuahia, during the inauguration of an implementation Committee on Abia Civil Service Housing Scheme, which has Hon. Theophilus Ugboajah, the state Commissioner for housing as Chairman.
The governor represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu charged the Committee to find out reasons the previous attempt by the past administration to give Abia Civil a befitting Housing scheme failed and use their findings to work on and come up with modalities to make the Housing scheme a reality within a short time.
The Governor further urged the committee to work out modalities to fast track the ongoing federal government housing scheme and see how it will be of benefit to them and the state in the drive to give Abia civil servants a housing scheme.
He tasked the committee not to hesitate to give the government any information or advice that will be of help in achieving the laudable objective and assured them of government support in carrying out their assignment.
In his remarks, the secretary to the state government, Barr, Chris Ezem said that the state is willing to give or donate land for development but would want the federal government to come and build their Secretariat on the land allocated to their agencies.
Responding to the chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Theophilus Ugboajah assured that members of the committee will work relentlessly to achieve government desire of giving Abia civil servants a befitting housing scheme and stressed the need for communities in the state to donate their land for meaningful development.
