The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie lkpeazu has reassured members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria of Government’s preparedness to partner the Institute to entrench accountability and transparency in governance.
Dr lkpeazu who gave the assurance while commissioning the Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu ICAN Resource Centre held at Mgbarakuma in Umuahia South LGA also promised that the present administration will do whatever it takes to provide the needed security and enabling environment for business to thrive in the State.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy Sir Ude Oko Chukwu lauded members of ICAN in the State Civil Service for their excellent performance and reaffirmed Govt’s resolve to engage more of their members in the governance of the State in terms of ensuring that projects and official duties of Govt are carried out transparently.
He commended the Counterpart Fund Donor and Golden Jubilee President of ICAN, Mr Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu for all he has done towards the development of the Accounting Profession in the State and nation especially in the establishment of the ICAN Resource Centre which will now afford many Abians aspiring to be Chartered Accountants to have a place as their reference point for their training, research and study centre.
In his address, the Golden Jubilee President of ICAN and Counterpart Fund Donor, Mr Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu said the initiative is a clarion call by ICAN to its members to help deepen the learning and study of accountancy in their environs and disclosed that, in contributing to the building of the Resouce Centre in the State, he is bringing back his relative success to the accounting profession and called on Abians irrespective of their profession to contribute positively to the development of the State and Nation.
Presenting her address, the 56th President of ICAN, Dame Onome Joy Adewuyi while paying glowing tributes to their Counterpart Fund Donor, Mr Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu for his uncommon kind gesture and sacrifice to impact lives positively said the Institute’s resolve is to deepen collaboration with reputable individuals as they entrench transparency and accountability in their polity and urged ICAN members to make judicious use of the Resouce Centre.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Umuahia and District Society of ICAN, Sir Michael Ibeh described the event as a celebration of an uncommon favour done them by the commissioning of the multi-million naira Resource Centre actualized through the donation of a Counterpart Fund by their former ICAN President, Mr Chidi Ajaegbu and thanked Governor Okezie lkpeazu for allocating them the piece of land for the construction of their ICAN Secretariat as well as appreciate their host Community of Mgbarakuma for their cooperation.
The ceremony which featured the unveiling of the plaque of the ICAN Resource Centre Logo by the Governor’s representative, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu assisted by the 56th President of ICAN, Dame Onome Adewuyi and official hand over of keys of the Secretariat/ Resouce Centre to the Chairman, Umuahia and District Society by the Counterpart Fund Donor attracted the presence of the SSG, Mr Chris Ezem, the Chairmen of Umuahia South and Ikwuano Local Government Areas and stakeholders in the accounting profession.
