Abia LG Election: Register Grievances Through Political Parties – IPAC Urges Aggrieved Candidates

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged candidates who are dissatisfied with the results of the recent Abia Local Government election to register their grievances through their political parties, as no candidate participated as an independent candidate.

This was stated by Hon. Uluocha Chimex, State Chairman of IPAC, on Saturday while responding to questions from journalists. He emphasized that the Local Government election set a high standard for elections.

“The State agents signed election sheets and collation. No candidate ran for the election as an independent candidate. So their grievances should be registered through their party. We will tell ABSIEC to release the CTE of the election. The election was free, fair and credible.”

Hon. Uluocha commended the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) for conducting a credible election that did not favour the ruling political party, which was unable to secure any seats. He also commended Governor Alex Otti for his non-interference during and after the election.

“Election was held, collation was done, and winners were announced. We have both winners and losers. The sustenance of democracy is the spirit of sportsmanship.

“No State Chairman challenged the results or due process which shows sportsmanship and a positive shift in our elections.

“We will encourage all the winners of the election to run an administration of inclusion of all political parties, just like the Governor is doing. As you know, the Governor’s party didn’t win any seat in the LG election.”

Also speaking, the Secretary of IPAC, Hon. Joseph Ulu, stated that the group is not an opposition entity but rather an advisory body. He urged elected officials to adopt an inclusive administration to enhance development within the democratic framework.

“IPAC is not an opposition party but an advisory body. ABSIEC has done a good job. We must not fail to commend Governor Alex Otti for his non-interference during and after the election. We urge the elected officials to run an all-inclusive government. We commend ABSIEC for doing a good job. We want to advise that legal processes should be taken to address electoral grievances. Write through the party for any grievances,” he concluded.
