Four days after recovering a pump – action gun and a locally made pistol in Lekki, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) officers in Lekki, late yesterday arrested a robber who dispossessed a commercial motorcyclist of his bike.
The robbery suspect, Yakubu Hammar, 22 years old, who relocated to Lagos a month ago, was chased and arrested by the team with the assistance of six motorcyclists in Lekki.
Yakubu, explained that he boarded the bike from General Paint area to Chevron Bus Stop for N700 with a plan to dispossess the rider of his bike around second toll gate.
Acting on his plan, he stopped the rider around the second toll gate on the pretext that he was going to pee. On returning to the biker, he used a white handkerchief to gag him. He dispossessed the rider, identified as Abubakar Nosiru and sped off the scene.
Shouts from Abubakar attracted RRS team on patrol and six other bikers. Yakubu was chased and arrested when the throttle cable of the bike cut off before Chisco Bus Stop.
Recovered from him were a long knife and a chisel.
Commander RRS, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi while encouraging the team, charged them to continue the onslaught on criminals in the entire Lagos State as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, adding that, it is not yet time to rest on their oars.
The suspect will be charged to court as directed by CP Hakeem Odumosu.
