Tragedy struck in the Banking Layout area of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday as a young man identified as Ndifreke drowned in a water retention pool.

According to eyewitness accounts shared with Passion FM, the incident occurred shortly after Ndifreke had completed a manual labour task.
Seeking to cool off, he entered the stagnant pool, which locals say was originally excavated to harvest rainwater for agricultural purposes.

Ndifreke reportedly went into the water with a friend, but the situation quickly turned dire. While both men struggled to stay afloat, only one managed to survive rescued by nearby women working on nearby farms.
The deceased’s body was later recovered from the pool, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.
