Shehu Sani, former Senator representing Kaduna Central has stated that the embattled Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu was prone to have issues when he announced the party’s consensus candidate Senator Ahmed Lawan in the general election and was left stranded by the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari.
“From the moment he announced Lawan as the ruling party’s consensus Candidate and was left stranded by Buhari, to the moment he was kept in the dark on the approved list of principal officers of the National Assembly, I knew that Adamu will thread the path of Adams.”
A report by the Peoples Gazette revealed that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, stormed the residence of the former Nasarawa State Governor on Ali Akilu Crescent near the Aso Rock Presidential Villa at around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.
They met resistance from police officers attached to the APC chairman as one of the sources said, “The police officers said no one can enter the house because it was already past 6:00 p.m. and already late for any search operation. They said they won’t allow anyone inside even if they go back to bring the judge that signed the warrant.”
There has been intensified push to oust the APC Chairman or resign, a move which has proved abortive so far. It was also gathered that the push comes from his failure to support President Bola Tinubu during the APC’s presidential primary election in June 2022.
Daily Trust reported that Mr Adamu resigned on Sunday night but the party’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said he could not deny or confirm the development.
He said, “I cannot say anything for now. I read the purported resignation of our National Chairman like most Nigerians but this is all I can say for now.”
A member of the National Working Committee who spoke on anonymity said, “We just heard the news this evening too like every other person that the chairman has resigned. I understand it was a directive from the presidency. I learned it was the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, who personally handed over the president’s letter to him.
“But we find his action demeaning. He could have, at least, briefed us as members of the same NWC before taking the decision.
“With his resignation, I don’t think he will be at the meeting tomorrow. In his absence, the Deputy National Chairman for North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, will take over in line with the Constitution. It is the norm that once a national chairman resigns, the deputy national chairman from his zone will take over in an acting capacity. Although we can’t have the official confirmation until tomorrow, my sources are very reliable,” he said.
