The Delta State Police Command has arrested over a hundred gay suspects who were in a gay wedding ceremony in Asaba despite a 14-year jail term for anyone caught in homosexuality in the country.
A statement on the Force page on social media revealed that the suspects will be paraded on Tuesday and arraigned in court.
“Delta State Command has Arrested over a hundred gay suspects in a hotel carrying out a gay wedding ceremony. We will be going Live Shortly on Facebook to parade the said Suspects.”
Despite countries signing gay rights into law, it remains prohibited in Nigeria and the Constitution states that anyone caught in the act might face up to 14 years in jail term.
A decision that led many gay couples to seek asylum in Canada and the rest of the world.
