Police Rescue Kidnapped Hostages, Arrest Murder Suspects

The Nigerian Police successfully rescued four kidnapped individuals in Umuokanne, Ohaji LGA, Imo State, on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, after receiving a distress call.

Police operatives quickly mobilized, locating the criminals’ hideout and engaging the kidnappers in a fierce gunfight, during which two of the kidnappers were neutralized. This successful operation resulted in the rescue of the four victims and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 21 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition.

In a separate incident on January 3rd, 2025, police operatives from the Ebonyi State Command arrested 17 suspects in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo LGA, in connection with the murder of a man named Uromchi Okorocha. Local youths had accused Mr Okorocha of being involved in several killings through alleged witchcraft and spiritual means.

The suspects took the law into their own hands by apprehending the deceased. Instead of handing him over to the appropriate legal authorities, they decided to act as judge, jury, and executioner. Tragically, Mr Okorocha was killed and burned before police from the Uwanna Division arrived at the scene.

According to Police PPRO ACP Prince Olumuyiwa, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has condemned this act of jungle justice in the strongest terms. Citizens are once again urged to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report any suspected criminal activities to the nearest police division or formation for appropriate action.
